I got my Inspire Bible and Bible tabs in the mail yesterday. I have been eagerly awaiting it's arrival. Once I tore through the outer shipping box I noticed that the beautiful box the Bible was packaged in was damaged. Now I knew the Bible itself might have small flaws which is why I got the deal on it that I did, but I was concerned that the book might be scrunched but it wasn't! It's perfect and I couldn't be more thrilled. Heaven be praised!
This Bible has a lot of beautiful printed artwork pages suitable for coloring but they are VERY detailed and VERY small. Since you've seen my previous work from my Inductive Study Bible you will, no doubt, see what the Lord has made me capable of, this one will be very restrictive compared to free form drawing. Still I couldn't wait to start coloring.
If I would make a few suggestions before any of you reading this should continue journaling in your own bibles. Those would be to first - put a clean piece of paper (folded in half for smaller pages or two pieces together for larger pages) between the page you are working on and the one beneath it. I found this very helpful to prevent indentations on the page(s) below and also it helps with bleed through for those of you using makers or paints especially if you don't treat your pages first!
The second would be to invest in some quality colored pencils. I'm going to buy PrismaColor pencils. You can find them on Amazon. I found they beat the prices that Michael's or Joann's could offer them at even WITH a coupon. I'm going to save up and get the 150 count set. Here's the link. I know $139 sounds like a lot of money, but I don't intend for this to be my only Bible verse journaling project. I'm going to buy some blank artist journals for me to fill. I think I may give the ones I complete to special friends or family members for Christmas or birthday gifts. God laid it on my heart that it would be a way for me to reach out and touch those precious to me who are not believers and even those who are.
As for the pencils...if Mary Engelbreit uses PrismaColor pencils for her work they are good enough for her, then who am I to argue?
My last and final suggestion would be to place your Bible on a hand towel before you start drawing to protect the beautiful cover from scratches or damage. The cover on mine is absolutely gorgeous! There's little flecks of glittery threads throughout it which make the design sparkle. It's an amazing piece of art. I was hard-pressed to choose between the cover or the book with the pretty sides, but in the end I chose the fancy cover. I'm glad I did.
I've read on another woman's blog that she actually STOPS herself from coloring when she feels she begins to compare her art to other peoples or feels that she "has" to get a piece done. I can appreciate that. I don't have that issue though so if you see me color in spurts it's because the Lord has drawn me to the verse. He determines where I go from there.
This Bible won't have as many free form pieces like my other one did due to the nature of the book itself, but trust me, wherever there's a blank page or edge you can bet I'll be doodling something there. So here I go...
The first page I did was James 1:17. It is one of the designs that comes in the Bible. I only colored it. I'm very fond of this palette. It feels so cheerful and makes me think of summer. Today it is stormy, windy and cold and I felt I needed a little sunshine on my pages. I used Crayola Twistable Colored Pencils on this page - they were a little difficult to use in the intricate lettering but I'm still happy with it.

My second piece was Genesis 1:31
I was happy to find that my life verse was already drawn in this Bible. It's Jeremiah 29:11.
I had a cancer scare a couple weeks ago and the Lord spoke this verse to me one morning. I'm committing it to memory. I used Prang colored pencils and Derwent watercolor pencils. I'm not happy with the way the colors turned out. I was going for a more vibrant palette but couldn't attain it with these. Still it's better than a finger in the eye.
Here's a close-up of the text and the flowers. You can see how small the designs are next to this colored pencil. You can trace the lettering but you definitely need a sharp point,
