A Day of Delights

12:58 p.m.

Today has been a busy morning for me so far. I was up early and was able to complete a few pages before heading off to classes. Now that I'm home for lunch I finished up with 1 Peter and 1 John.

This one was a lot harder to draw than it looks. In fact, it probably took me about 30 minutes to get the measurements for the keyboard keys down pat. I had to be careful using the marker to make the black keys. Since there's no illustration on the back side of the page it didn't really matter if it bled through a little. I was fortunate that it didn't but I wanted to save that column for notes anyway.

My Prayer List Page+Lots More

Well, here it is almost 2:30 in the morning and I'm up working on Bible journaling. Could this be a new addiction? I can't think of anything more beneficial to be addicted to. :)

Here's my prayer list for my children, their spouses and their children. I saw something similar to this on Facebook but I added my own twist. It's a great way for me to remember all of their birthdays, too. I used a piece of washi tape to mark it.

3:02 a.m.
I'm still up and this is the latest one I've accomplished. I want the glass of the salt shaker to look like the pale green glass they used on old-fashioned Coke glasses. I like that it turned out nicely because the "salt" is really white.

3:31pm
Still haven't been back to bed yet. I'm powered by coffee at this point, but after this post I'm heading off to bed for a nap.

I thought this would be an interesting take on a lighthouse. Usually they are red and white or black and white.

I thought orange hibiscus would be different from the red ones that are so popular. I think it turned out nicely.

It took me a while to do all the different colors in the waves.

This was fun to do because of all the rainbow colors.

7:52pm
I've been busy coloring more pages. I did manage to lay down for a nap and woke up rested and ready to color more. I did this page to commemorate my birthday. My name means industrious like a bee and the flower for the month of May is the Lily of the Valley so that's what I drew. I also highlighted my favorite verses in Chapter 31.

I'm going to switch to my new coloring book Whatever is Lovely that I bought at Walmart for $10. It's $14.99 at Michael's. I also bought the Inspirational Coloring for Mom coloring book for $9. It's normally $10 so that wasn't such a great deal but I've never seen one and I really like the art in it. Unfortunately, the pages are too long to tape them into my Inspire Bible. Drat!

11:08pm
I haven't made it over to my coloring books yet. I'm still in my Bible. I colored this one in and used a piece of washi tape to mark it's location because I'm such a worry wart and this will really help me when I'm worried about something like going for a job interview the next day...

I just finished the Lord's Prayer. The title Our Father was written with an old English font so for me it sort of set the tone. I wanted my piece to look like an old-fashioned Victorian Sampler, so I used muted purples, peaches and rose colors. I did a lot of blending too.

Inspire Cover Page

6:43 p.m.
I've been working on this piece for the past few hours. There's been a lot of shading involved. I'm very happy with the way it turned out but I have to say I had a real hard time deciding what color to make the flowers. Finally, I resorted to the internet for inspiration. I looked up lilies and roses. I found it odd that the illustrator put carnations attached to dogwood blossoms, but there you have it. I made them more violet than the dogwood flowers which are a light lavender with pink overtones. The roses are a pale peach. I colored the birds to represent my precious mountain bluebirds. One of the butterflies is kingfisher blue with deep orange and golden yellow spots the other is purple with orange yellow spots.

Encouraging Words

Today is my birthday...
It's 6:00 am and I'm up so I decided to do some Bible journaling. I'm concerned about an interview I have today to get into the PET program. Gaining entrance to this would mean I could get a job as a Peer Support Specialist/Counselor and could get off of disability with a decent wage and hopefully benefits.

I know that God wants nothing but the best for me, but I am a little concerned about what I should say so I come across as a competent and intellectual candidate. So I'm going to read from my Bible and see where the Lord takes me.

6:30am
Well, I got some encouraging words. Words of strength and direction. It can't be any plainer than that!

I still feel led to read more so I'm going to do that now...

7:30 a.m.
I just finished reading and God spoke to me through His Word once again. Words of comfort.

8:00 p.m.
It's been a long day, but I'm happy to say that I went boldly into my interview and God guided my words just as He promised. I think I made a good impression. They told me they'd let me know tomorrow by an email if I got in or not.

As I look at the drawing above I know that I can rest easy because it's all in God's hands now.

An Afternoon of Journaling

3:44 PM
I had classes in the morning so I got a late start, but I've been thoroughly enjoying the book headings I've been working on. I still have quite a few to go. So far I've done these four.

Here's my first one of the day... I used Prang and Derwent colored pencils using lots of layering of colors. The don't show up well in the photo though. The lettering is in a dark green, the words "gracious" and "merciful" are in Rose with Lake Red on top of that. With the word "love" I put shading in on all of the curves to give it a 3D effect. The colors I used were red orange for the shading and rose for the top color. I did the same for "Nehemiah". I could have done the boulders in gray but I liked the warm shades of Golden Brown with Terracotta over the top much better. This was a pre-drawn design found on page 548 of the Bible.

The verse is one that I should remember every day because I constantly screw up. Isn't it nice to know that God looks through Jesus at our sins and forgives us totally when we do?

I had a lot of fun coloring this one. The words "Proverbs, Wisdom," "Knowledge," and "good judgment" are all done in Prang's color rose with red lake as a top color. Lord and Holy one are done in Derwent's color of golden brown with Prang's Golden Yellow as a top layer.  I did the background in Prang's soothing color yellow green. This is a pre-drawn design found on page 743 of the Bible.

Isaiah was done in a combination of sea colors. It is very soothing to look at. This design came pre-drawn in the Bible. It's on page 805.

Habakkuk was a joy to color. It's found on page 1124 of the Bible. Once again it's a pre-drawn design and not one of my own. I love the vibrant colors and the French Country feel of the fruit. I used a soothing color palette of deep reds, muted purples, olive green and deep greens. The name of the book is done in Copper Beeches which looks like a shiny penny even though the camera couldn't pick that up.

Well, that's it so far today.

Seven New Pages

It's been a busy Sunday for me starting out with the 10:45 service at church and then some shopping. Still I was able to 7 new drawings. I think I'm getting the hang of this. I'll tell you what page the drawing is found on if it came in the Bible and if I drew it myself then I'll tell you that. This way you can see what pieces come in the Bible if you want to buy one for yourself.

Okay, I'm not thrilled with this one. I colored the cross in so I could put the bible tab on not thinking about the color scheme I would want to use, so this is not my favorite piece. It's on page 576.

This is my favorite piece of the day. I love this verse. Since it talked about seasons I did the tree on the left in fall colors and the tree on the right like a spring tree budding. The heading and the word "heaven' are done in Copper Beeches which as I told you in an early post looks like a shiny copper penny. My camera just can't pick it up. This piece is on page 786.

I had a good time meditating on this verse as I colored it. The verse reminds me how much I need to commit more verses to memory. This drawing is found on page 621.
This was something basic. It originally only had the heart and the text, but I added the clouds and turned the heart into a balloon by adding a string. It's found on page 745.

This was another beautiful piece to color on. I'm rather fond of cherry blossoms so that's the color I made the flowers. Jeremiah is done in orchid. This drawing is on page 898.

This time dogwoods were my inspiration. The drawing can be found on page 981 in the Inspire Bible.

This is my last piece today. I had fun coloring in the beautiful waterfall and flowering plants alongside it. I used the same color that I used in the water to color in the words Mighty Flood and Endless River. AMOS and Living are in gold. The flowers are in the color Rose in my Prang pencil collection.

Six New Drawings

Here's some artwork that I did today.
It's my goal to finish all of the chapter headings by the end of the week.
Many of the verses have spoken to me as I've been coloring them or the ones I've illustrated on my own. I am compiling a list of verses to memorize. Some of the verses didn't speak directly to me but were still enjoyable to work on.

This photo doesn't do justice to the page. the words "Ruth," "you go", "your", "my people" and "my God" are all done in a color called Copper Beeches which looks like a shiny copper penny. I just couldn't capture it with my camera phone. This design came in the Bible. You can find it on page 306.

Once again my phone couldn't quite get the colors right. The flowers are purple and bright orange and so are the words "Numbers, Bless, Protect, Smile and Gracious." I think an Irish Blessing is based on this verse...or is it Jewish? I don't know which.  the whole page as a light peach background. This design came in the Bible. Its on page 153.

This is a simple design on page 309. I made it out of fall colors since fall is my favorite season.

This design is on page 453. You can't tell but the header and the side column are colored in with silver so it's really shiny and pretty. I used teals and golds for all of the words.

Another beautiful piece on page 493. I especially like the scene at the bottom. The verse is a daily reminder to pray everyday and lift my problems to the Lord with a contrite heart. There's a song by the group Avalon called If My People Pray based on this verse. I put a link to the song on Youtube. It's in the title, if you'd care to listen to it. It's very beautiful.

Another design found on page 567. Once again a lot of time and color changes went into this one. It reminds me of a scene in the movie Gettysburg where a slave quoted this scripture to a Yankee soldier who was dying. If you haven't seen this movie it's definitely worth watching. Here's the trailer. It is a very patriotic movie. The prequel is called Gods and Generals
Esther is the last piece I did today.

More New Art

It's 1:40 AM and I'm waiting for my hubby to come home from a gig. He's late and that always makes me a little nervous because of all of the intoxicated people on the road at this time of the night. So I've been seeking solace in the Word and doing some more drawings. I expect I'll do more later on today after a good night's sleep.

This design came in the Bible. It's on page 416. I used metallic gold on the chariot wheel so it's really shiny. The horses pulling the chariot were drawn with Copper Beech so they too are shiny and look the color of a new penny. I am disappointed that it didn't show up that well in the photo.

I like the mountain scene for this picture.
It came with the Bible which is on page 346. It didn't really show up in this photo but I put in a very light blue sky all the way up the column where the Scripture verse is.

I like this one (which I drew) because it is of a lighthouse and I'm very fond of them. I had an opportunity to drive the outer banks from North Carolina to Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia with a stay over on Okrakoke Island. It was a memory I will always treasure. This verse reminds me that while the Lord is the light of the world it's my privilege to have His light shine through me and I try to do that every day.

This is another colorful drawing that came in the Bible which can be found on page 755. Once again it took a lot of time and color changes but I love the pretty and cheerful look of it. The verse reminds me that the words I speak can cause a change or affect people so I need to be careful what I say.

I sketched this one myself using Derwent and Prang colored pencils.

Another one that I sketched using my colored pencils. It's a nice reminder of how the Lord blesses me everyday.

This is another sketch of mine. I like the tag and the violets because they remind me of an old-fashioned garden. The message reminds me that I have nothing to fear as long as I am right with the Lord.

I love the color palette that I used for this book. The ribbon at the top of the page was a lot of fun. Here's a closeup of the bar under Timothy's name.

This was one of the drawings that came in the Bible. It's on page 1431.

This drawing that I did required a lot of time, but I love the effect.

I'm pretty happy with this one except that I drew her head a little too big for her body and didn't realize it until I had used my Micron pen and drew it out. I like the message though.

This was one of the pages that came with the Bible, but the verse looked pretty plain so I added the flowers and vines. It's on page 1156.

This is another one I drew. I love hydrangeas and that's what the purple flowers are. The yellow ones are just something I threw in there to give a little contrast. I also like to add little bees with bee trails whenever I do floral drawings. They add a bit of whimsy to the picture.

This is a drawing that come in the book. It's on page 372. I love the picture at the bottom. The verse is a poignant reminder of who my life is secured with, who protects me from my troubles even though they may happen He is right beside me all the way.

Another drawing in the Bible (page 379) that I used my colored pencils on. I love the sunbeams shooting out from God's name. I don't know why but this piece made me thing of Egypt.

This is another beautiful drawing in the Bible (page 346) and the final one I did today.
